Nice to hear Courtney's voice again ask coolly "Alright. How are you guys doing?" followed with the first notes of Be-In!! The song had a shorter intro than the day before in Paris, Courtney's voice wasn't as good but the music was just as hypnotic. The song segued into a long, long and woozy Mohammed. Quite good despite some muddle at the start. Bohemian Like You was a bit weak in my opinion.

After I Love You Zia had to pee so Courtney said we had time for at least 15 minutes (which turned out to be barely 3 minutes). So the frontman decided to talk about I Love You. He said: "That last song was written about 4 years ago for the first of many women who ended up actually trading me in. They trade up, that's what they do. I got traded in for the bass-player of Gun & Roses. No, fuck him.. I Love You, Holiday, Green & Whippin' Tree, all that ...pssstt... gone because of Duff McKagan from Guns & Roses. Yeah... Has anybody seen the guitarist from Hole up close? He's like a lurch. Yeah, that was 2 years ago... So I'm figuring, as long as other bands sell more records than mine I will always have some shit to write songs about. It's all right though. I like it. It's fine for me NOW."

Craziest, kickiest Horse Pills ever ever!!! Gawd, that song really rocks live!

Nice projections of a pretty sexy dancing girl during Hard On For Jesus.

After Minnesota, Courtney explained that the guy who runs their sound is from Belgium and that he actually almost never speaks French in front of them as a courtesy. He added they thought of Belgium a lot even though they hadn't been there for about 3 years and then thanked the Belgian public for coming down to the show.

After Kim Deal, Courtney announced a series of not-singles of their first album and could be heard suggesting TV, Ride and Genius to another band member.

After TV Theme Song, Courtney asked what we wanted to hear... I had to yell "Dub Song" (again) of course but we got Get Off instead!

The lighting during Green was not as good as the night before and the rendition of the song not as moving either IMHO. Then they went straight into Good Morning. Nice trumpet job from Troy here again.

"I saw that Kristin Hirsh played here, there is pictures of a lot of bands and artists that have done this room so... er..." Courtney said and started playing Your Ghost. A couple of lines into the cover he remarked "Strange that only guys yelled for this song/about this song". Excellent, mellow rendition of the song. Hummm... Courtney does beautiful stuff with his acoustic guitar and sensual voice!

Then they resumed their "1st-album not-singles" and enchanted us with shoegazing, mesmerizing Ride and awesome Genius "Smart, bright, sharp" + great voice "darling, you give me a rope and I'll hang myself it doesn't take a genius to figure it out" = "fucking brilliant", yes it was. It segued into sth psychedelic, very slow and hazy. Druggy vocals. The whole thing sounded almost religious to me!! Brilliant indeed. It neatly segued into infectious Boys Better.

After Junkie Courtney announced they were gonna play Amsterdam next which led Zia to declare : "I want to congratulate you guys on your new freedom of marijuana being legal." Her statement caused quite a cheerful reaction in the audience. Then Zia and Courtney invited someone to walk up and bring them some weed, Courtney saying: "Oh let him through. Let's smoke a little weed. What do you say?" and they started Country Leaver before projections of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper riding their choppers in Easy Rider. Cool!

Now it was time for a break. Courtney: "No we don't really want to walk off the stage and have you guys all screaming for a come-back so can we just stay here for a second, smoke a spliff and ... And then we'll play a couple of more songs". Of course everyone approved. Zia said she needed someone to provide a spliff and they both started begging for one... You should have heard poor Zia imploring "can I have some marijuana please", with Courtney adding: "I could roll one but it's gonna take me like 10 fucking minutes". Then he insisted: "just get us some fucking grass on stage" and Zia wept: "I'm not gonna play any more music to you till you guys give me some marijuana". Com'on, people have pity on them!!! ;-) A minute later someone was giving them what had been asked for. They must have gotten enough for at least Zia and Courtney. The two of them shared, Zia saying: "Hey you guys are so good!" and after a few tokes Zia added: "Thank you so much whoever's grass that is!" and they resumed with Godless. Again great trumpet-playing by Troy.

"Have you guys ever heard of an American band called The Brian Jonestown Massacre?" was followed by a brilliant and moving cover of Stars which segued into the Rolling Stones' The Last Time! Sublime! and then Courtney wished us good night, thanked again for the grass and that was it.

On the whole, great setlist, songs often nicely segued into each other and fewer breaks than in Paris, therefore very few bumps. I must admit I liked it better that way. The show was smoother. It was like a pleasant trip with/on The Dandys on a nicely winding tarmac road. Better audience than in Paris as well and excellent response from the public. A great night.
